Integrated is a biennial conference organized by St Lucas Antwerp in collaboration with arts campus deSingel. Integrated functions as an interdisciplinary and controversial platform, with a high level of festival contents, where speakers confront their work and the underlying design processes, sources of inspiration and methodologies with one another, leaving conference-goers with a sense of ‘indigestion’ in the sense: ‘Well, I’ll need a minute to catch my breath, but at least I was there!’
Integrated sheds light on the changing positions of designers, architects and artists, and explores how they function as connecting actors in the development of new practices, whether with a sharp artistic and/or activist discourse or not. This happens from a historical awareness, so that the originality of ideas is recognized and forms the inspiration for a solemn, optimistic and sustainable investment in the future.
Integrated is already in its sixth edition and wants to keep its finger on the pulse by continuously tracking new trends. Each conference is introduced by a manifesto. For the 2017 edition, Prof. Pascal Gielen (UA) and Hugo Puttaert (head of the Graphic Design department and conference organizer) have written: Between creativity and criminality. The art and design of civil domains.
Integrated is an initiative of De Hybride Ontwerper and YellowPress, respectively a research and publication platform of St Lucas Antwerp.
